Ben Crick directs Stravinsky in the first of two concerts performing Bach’s complete Brandenburg Concertos.
JS Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos stand among the greatest creative achievements of the 18th century. Each concerto is written for a different and innovative combination of instruments with many of them given solo spots. Concertos 1, 2 and 4 feature in this first Bach and Beyond concert – think hunting horns, trumpet acrobatics and virtuoso violins.
These are paired with Stravinsky’s Dumbarton Oaks, which was modelled on the Brandenburgs, The Unanswered Question by Charles Ives, and the premiere of Bobbie-Jane Gardner’s Winter Always Turns To Spring which takes its inspiration from Bach’s humanity and faith.
